Although your desktop computer or laptop comes already installed with many different fonts, when it comes to choosing a font for your logo, report titles etc chances are you want a font that’s just right, not one that will “just do”. Also sometimes we just want to “play” with new fonts!
There are many different places where you can download free or paid fonts. Here are just a few sites to start with. Be warned, searching for the right font can take hours and the time you spend looking for the perfect font can go by in no time at all! Usually at the end of your search you will have many more than just one font to install!
Once you’ve found a font you want to use then it’s very easy to install a new one. Using a font from 1001FreeFonts as an example:
Find the font you like:

and before you download it, you will want to see what your text will look like using the font, so click on “Custom Preview”.
You will be taken to a screen where you can enter your chosen text in the “Custom Font Preview”. You will notice that as you type in this box, your text will appear in your chosen font.

If you are happy with how things look then you can click on either the Mac or Windows Download button to start installing the font.

Click on “ok” to save the file and then go to the folder where your downloads are stored. For most it will be in your “Downloads” folder. Find the zip file and extract the contents. When you double click on the zip file to open it you should see the “Extract all files” appear along the top of your File Manager.
